Talmy, an American living in London in the pre-dawn of the British invasion, found himself in the right place at the right time to discover and produce such iconic acts as The Kinks and The Who. Bill Chadwick is often referred to as “The Fifth Monkee.” Bill has been a composer, arranger, vocalist and instrumentalist for decades, and played a key role in what was once The Monkees artistic pool of talent. He has worked in a variety of roles with Donovan, Jimi Hendrix and The Beach Boys as well, among many other accomplishments. His presence in the 60’s California music scene, along with his travels and work with so many artists over the years have made Bill a true legend.

For those of you who enjoy exploring how records are made from the production side, this episode is for you. Sean Slade, one of the founders of the wonderful and legendary Fort Apache Studios in Boston, and producer of such artists as Radiohead, Hole, Warren Zevon, The Go-Go’s, The Dresden Dolls, Dinosaur Jr., Buffalo Tom, Uncle Tupelo (and etc) discusses the always surprising world of the recording studio, and we get to hear what makes Sean tick, what makes him sick, and what makes him slick. At least that’s how I perceive it. The episode is lengthy, but worth a listen in my humble opinion. Give it a spin!

Riverhead, a Penguin Books imprint, have just released ‘It Feels So Good When I Stop,’ a new novel by Joe Pernice. As well, Joe has just released his second solo album of the same title, a sort of sonic partner to the book.

Joe is an accomplished songwriter and musician with a large catalog of releases under his belt including The Scud Mountain Boys, Chappaquiddick Skyline, and most notably The Pernice Brothers. In this podcast, Joe talks about the new book, his writing process, growing pains (not the TV show), and what he is up to these days now that the book is out of his hands and in ours.

The first episode of A Pop Diary features a conversation with the always cool and amazing Kim Shattuck of The Muffs. The Muffs create a rare form of melodic rock that is powerful and joyful, and in this interview Kim talks about what the band are up to in 2009, sheds some light on Ronnie and Roy, and talks Dodgers baseball and photography.

Try to ignore the brief outer space noises near the beginning of the interview… not sure what that is. Instead, focus on Kim. She is really fun.
